Retainers
Keep your new, beautiful smile straight and perfect for a lifetime with a custom-made retainer.
What Are Retainers and What Do They Do?
After your braces are removed, wearing a retainer is essential to maintain your new smile.
This custom-made device holds your teeth in their corrected position while the surrounding gums, bones, and muscles gradually adapt to the change. Since teeth aren’t immediately stable after treatment, everyday habits like chewing or grinding can cause them to shift back.
To ensure long-lasting results, our expert dentists at Saphire Dent will provide you with clear, personalized instructions on how and when to wear your retainer-helping you preserve your perfect smile for years to come.

What are the different types of orthodontic retainers?
Fixed Retainers (Permanent)
- A fixed retainer is a thin wire that is bonded to the back of your front teeth. It stays in your mouth all the time, and you can't remove it yourself. These are often used for the lower front teeth to prevent them from shifting
These are retainers you can take in and out of your mouth. The two main types are:
- Traditional (Hawley) retainers – These are made of a metal wire attached to a plastic plate.
- Clear retainers (Essix) – These are clear, plastic trays that fit over your teeth like an invisible aligner.
