Complete vs. Partial Dentures – What’s Right for You?

Dentures are a removable way to replace missing teeth and the surrounding tissues. At Saphire Dent clinic, we provide two main types:

Complete Dentures

  • A complete denture is a removable appliance designed to replace all the teeth in either your upper or lower jaw. These custom-made dentures are crafted from an acrylic resin base that looks like your gum tissue, with artificial teeth attached. By restoring your smile, complete dentures also help you chew, speak, and support your facial muscles for a natural appearance.
  • Conventional Denturesare made after all your teeth have been removed and your gums have had time to heal, which usually takes about 8 to 12 weeks. This type of denture is ready for placement once the healing process is complete
  • Immediate Denturesare placed right after teeth are removed, so you are never without teeth. They often require more adjustments as the gums heal and shrink.

Partial Dentures

  • Partial dentures are a practical and comfortable way to replace missing teeth while keeping your natural ones intact. They’re designed to blend seamlessly with your smile and restore everyday function.

Here’s what they offer:

-A better-looking smileby filling in the gaps left by missing teeth.

-Easier chewing and clearer speechfor a more confident daily life.

-Protection for your remaining teethby preventing them from shifting.

-Support for your facial structureto help maintain a natural, balanced look.

Snap-on Dentures with Implants

Snap-on dentures, also known as implant-supported dentures, offer a modern upgrade to traditional removable dentures.

This innovative option uses a few dental implants placed in your jawbone, which act as anchors for the denture to "snap" onto.

This provides a remarkably stable fit, eliminating the worry of your denture slipping or moving while you eat, talk, or laugh.

Snap-on dentures significantly improve your chewing power and overall comfort, giving you the confidence to enjoy your life without limits.

FAQs

Common Dental Questions

Dentures are custom-made to look like your natural teeth and should not cause a noticeable change in your appearance. In fact, a well-fitting denture can improve your smile and restore the natural shape of your face.

It's normal to need a little time to get used to eating with new dentures. We recommend starting with soft foods cut into small pieces and chewing slowly on both sides of your mouth. As you get more comfortable, you can gradually return to your normal diet, but you should avoid very hard, sticky foods and chewing gum.

You may have some trouble pronouncing certain words at first. This is normal and can be fixed with practice. If you notice a clicking sound while speaking or if your dentures slip when you laugh or cough, gently bite down and swallow to reposition them. If the problem continues, contact your dentist at our dental care clinic.

Your dentist will give you specific instructions. Initially, you may be asked to wear them constantly to help identify areas that need adjustment. After this, it's generally recommended that you remove your dentures at night to let your gums rest and stay healthy.
