A frenum is a small piece of tissue that connects your tongue to the bottom of your mouth or your upper lip to your gums. When this tissue is too short or too tight, it can restrict movement.

Why a Frenectomy May Be Needed
• Speech Difficulties: A tight lingual frenum (under the tongue) can cause tongue-tie, making it hard to speak clearly or pronounce certain sounds.
• Feeding or Eating Problems: In infants and children, a restricted frenum can interfere with breastfeeding or chewing.
• Gaps Between Teeth: A thick labial frenum (between the upper lip and gums) may cause a noticeable gap between the front teeth, especially in children.
